THEME: From Farm to Plate: Smallholders’ Participation in Inclusive Value Chains
WHAT TO CAPTURE: In Southeast Asia, where most of the population are
still small farmers and fishers, there is a need to document and tell
the stories of inclusive value chains—those that embrace the
participation of smallholders into existing or new value chains—or
letting smallholders extract greater value from the chain, either by
increasing efficiency or by also carrying out activities further along
the chain.
SEARCA PHOTO CONTEST 2015 will award entries that best capture how
smallholders participate in the value chain (production, aggregation,
processing, and distribution) of fresh produce (crop and livestock),
commodities, and handicrafts as a means of promoting agricultural and
rural development. We are looking for photographs that depict real
situations in which the smallest producers are able to link to and
profit from modern integrated markets (domestically, or even abroad).
Send us photos of smallholders who have transformed themselves into
entrepreneurs; photos that show how smallholder farming can be
commercialized and become profitable; photos of contract farming as an
instrument for inclusion and up-scaling. We would like to see
photographs where smallholders ensure the quality of their products by
applying good agricultural practices, using certified seed, adhering to
quality standards, maintaining cold chains, and accessing information
and communication technology. Finally, send us photos that show how
smallholders ensure the sustainability of their farms by reducing their
impact on the natural environment and increasing their farm’s resilience
to climate change.
PRIZE DETAILS: First Place USD 800
Second Place USD 500
Third Place USD 300
People’s Choice (via Facebook voting) USD 200
COPYRIGHT: To minimize cases of plagiarism, during the submission process, contestants will be asked to certify:
a) That they are the owner of the photograph and that submission of an
entry to the contest indicates full permission granted to SEARCA to use
the photograph, with proper credit to the photographer (for
mass-produced print publications), in Center endeavors in knowledge
packaging, sharing, and advocacy related to SEARCA’s mandate.
b) That the photograph is original and has not won any previous photo
contest and that it has not been published elsewhere (print or
electronic).
c) That the photo has not been digitally altered and/or enhanced in any way other than simple cropping.
USAGE RIGHTS: Submission of entries to the contest indicates
full permission granted to SEARCA to use the photographs, with proper
